You never post stock by hand — it moves on its own: every purchase adds to it and every sale takes from it, per item and per godown. The stock reports simply show the result. Stock Summary gives quantity and value on hand; Stock Valuation values the closing stock; the Item Ledger is one product's blow-by-blow movement.
The Item Ledger is the one to open when a quantity looks wrong — it lists every in and out (which purchase added stock, which sale removed it) with the running quantity, so you can trace the current figure back to the exact voucher.
